Composer, Songwriter and Performer

Hazel Mary (Sturt) is a North Wales–based composer, multi‑instrumentalist, and performer whose work is closely connected to the musical communities she has been part of for over a decade. She has had two works performed at the Conwy Classical Music Festival, most recently the commissioned premiere of Inheritance: Bridged Memories, written for the Fitzsimmon Ensemble. This performance marks an important step in her developing presence within North Wales’ classical music scene.Hazel’s work explores cross‑disciplinary collaboration, with a particular interest in how sound can hold memory, identity, and shared experience. She regularly works with local poet Alison Lock and jazz musician Steve Summers, - and is one half of Darwish and Mary - a duo creating original music that blends folk, improvisation, and contemporary storytelling.Hazel also contributes to grassroots arts activity in Conwy. She curates Conwy Fringe and leads initiatives including the Songwriters and Poets Society, Sesiwn Conwy Folk, and The Telford 200 Creative Collective, supporting emerging voices and strengthening the region’s cultural identity.
